The alarm bell for the rapid development of the COVID-19 pandemic in Greece was rung by Matina Pagoni, president of the Athens hospital doctors.
When are COVID-19 cases expected to decrease in Athens and Thessaloniki?
Pagoni, president of the hospital doctors of Athens, expressed her intense concern regarding the situation that prevails in our country due to the pandemic.
She said that more than 3,000 patients are hospitalized in Greek hospitals with COVID-19, while she warned that the R index has passed 1 and goes to 2.
As for the drop in cases yesterday, she said that the 1,698 new cases should not be taken into account, as the samples were half, ie about 14,000 COVID-19 tests and 1,600 rapid tests were performed.
According to her, the increased deaths should be taken into account, adding that they are justified by the increase in the number of intubated and hospitalized COVID-19 patients in hospitals.
When are cases expected to stabilize?
Pagoni stressed in Attica and in other cities except Thessaloniki, COVID-19 cases are expected to stabilize from next Saturday as it will be 15 days since the implementation of the new lockdown measures.
According to her, this stabilization should continue for 3 to 4 days and on Saturday the reduction of cases is expected to begin.
She described Thessaloniki as a special case and stressed that it takes more time since compared to its population the cases were too many.
Therefore, the stabilization trend will start together with Athens and the other cities, although the restrictive measures in Thessaloniki started a week earlier.
