Hospitals that will be able to treat COVID cases

Following the significant strengthening of all public hospitals in the country with more than 6,000 recruitments, which were carried out in the framework of the Government's plan for strengthening the NSS, with the decision of the Minister of Health, Vassilis Kikilias, the number of hospitals will be able to treat COVID-19 cases.

A circular signed by the Secretary General of Health Services, I. Kotsiopoulos, calls on the governors of the Health Regions (RIA) to complete a series of actions aimed at increasing the health formations that will treat confirmed cases.

More specifically:

• The confirmed cases will be treated in the 14 Referral Hospitals (GPT "Papanikolaou" was added) but also in additional hospitals that will be designated in each RDA as "Hospitals-COVID".

• Suspicious cases will be treated in all NSS Hospitals that have declared that they have COVID-19 beds and which will be in full operational readiness.

• When a patient is confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus, he or she will be transported from the first announcement of the result either to a specially designed area to be isolated from other patients or to a clinic where other patients with COVID-19 are treated (according to instructions of the Hospital Infections Committee). If the hospital does not have the possibility of hospitalization, the patients will be served in a Reference Hospital or in another Hospital-COVID with actions of EKAB-KEPY which will be responsible for the coordination.

Finally, the circular points out the urgent need for strict and proper observance of all health protocols to deal with incidents (suspicious and confirmed).
