The significant loss for the shipping world from the sudden death of Maria Tsakou at the age of 49. She was the daughter of Elias Tsakos, brother of the living legend of the shipowner and businessman Panagiotis Tsakos.
He studied law in London where he moved at the age of seventeen to prepare for the entrance exams to the law school of the University of London. After graduation, she continued her studies at the Maritime Law Institute of the University of Southampton.
She received her master's degree in 1993 and from the following year began working in the family business.
