Greek Police announced measures for road safety 2 days before of the 15th of August

Aiming at road safety, the Hellenic Police will increase traffic patrols on the national road network, especially near major cities, airports, bus terminals, ports, railway stations and toll stations, due to the mass movement of Greek citizens to the province and the islands for holiday of 15 August.

As part of its road safety scheme, the traffic police will increase patrols on the national road network, especially near major cities, airports, bus terminals, ports, railway stations and toll stations.

According to an announcement, extra police will be patrolling to ensure public order and road safety. The patrols will have zero tolerance for drivers under the influence of alcohol, speeding, making irregular lane changes, passing through red lights and not wearing seatbelts or helmets.

In this context, drivers are kindly requested to:

  • be informed about the condition of the road network.
  • be especially careful when driving.
  • observe the rules of the Road Traffic Code.
  • drive at low speed to better control their vehicle.
  • to comply with the instructions of police regulating traffic.

In addition, trucks weighing over 1.5 tons will be banned from traveling on Friday, August 14, from 16:00 to 21:00 and on Saturday, August 15, from 08:00 to 13:00, on the national highway lane leading out of Athens. They will also be banned from traveling on Sunday, August 16, from 16:00 to 23:00, on the lane leading into Athens.
