The Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis, the Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou, and the Deputy Minister of Health Irini Agapidaki presented the National Electronic Health Record during a press conference today, Monday, March 10, 2025.
The National Electronic Health Record is a new system that integrates citizens' medical data into a secure and easy-to-use platform. Through MyHealth, citizens have full access to their individual health file, with all diagnoses, drug prescriptions, test results, and hospitalizations concentrated in one place. Doctors, through the platform, have direct access to their patients' complete medical histories, facilitating the provision of personalized health services.
The project is evolving to continuously improve the quality and continuity of care, by leveraging artificial intelligence technologies and integrating new data. The National Electronic Health Record is the core of the digital transition of our health system. It is a system that is enriched, with continuous additions of functions and data, to respond to our ever-changing needs. With the National Electronic Health File, healthcare becomes more efficient, safe and accessible for everyone.
In his introductory statement, Greek Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis stated:
“Today we are here to present to the Greek people a truly great project that has been carried out by the Ministry of Health, through the Hellenic Institute of Health and the Ministry of Digital Governance. A project that is the evolution of the old My Health App into something completely new, the National Electronic Health Record (EHR). EHR completely changes how information about each of our medical records will reach the treating physician, in emergencies and for any other use. A short while ago, I signed the establishment of the National Patient Registry for Rare Hematological Diseases and the establishment of the National Patient Registry for Rare Ophthalmological Diseases. I say this because, a year ago, I signed the National Cancer Registry and together with IDIKA, we have put it into production operation since February 25. The first doctors have already been connected, the first oncology patients have entered the national registry, and by the end of the year, everyone will have. Our goal is for health in Greece to enter a completely new era through the use of digital tools and that is why today is a historic day.”
The Greek Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, stated:
“The presentation of the National Electronic Health Record is a special moment for the digitalization of the country, a breakthrough for public health and the achievement of an important milestone for the Recovery Fund. Currently, the application interoperates with 15 registries, 124 hospitals and 680 microbiological laboratories. Gradually, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, we will interconnect more and more public and private bodies. In combination with the very large project of “Improving the Digital Readiness of Hospitals”, which will bring all hospitals in the country to the same digital level so that they can interoperate with each other, citizens will soon have access to all their health information from their mobile phones via the myHealth app. In addition, doctors will for the first time have a structured overview of patients’ examinations. We have utilized the modern infrastructure of the Ministry of Digital Governance to implement an application that will form the basis for all new digital health services. At the same time, we place great importance on user convenience and integrate Artificial Intelligence into the application with Digital Assistants for citizens and doctors. We will continue, through IDIKA, to integrate digital solutions with multiple benefits for the critical sector of Health.”
The Greek Deputy Minister of Health, Irini Agapidaki, stated:
“Beyond the obvious benefits of the National Electronic Health File for citizens and the formulation of health policies, there is something else very important that arises from this reform. At the end of the year, with the completion of the National Electronic Health File, the inconvenience of thousands of citizens who apply to go through the Health Committees of the KEPA for disability certification will come to an end. From the end of the year, disability certification will be done digitally, as the EHFY will have all the required information and will incorporate the data and interoperability required. Thus, patients will no longer need to go through a health committee, and disability certification will be done exclusively digitally. The suffering and delay for thousands of patients will end. The final institutional framework will be formed in collaboration with the relevant ministries. We are taking another more decisive step towards the modern welfare state that we want our country to have and the quality of life that every citizen deserves.”
