We must always have the supervision of children near the water

Swimming and playing in the sea or the pool are children's favorites.
The water, however, always hides dangers, so it is necessary for the adults to pay constant attention to the children, even if they know how to swim.

On the occasion of the incident at sea in the area of Rio, we must once again emphasize the need to pay attention to children when swimming or playing near the water.

At noon on Monday, August 24, a 4-year-old girl, who was swimming with her parents on the beach of Antirrio and was on his children's life buoy, was swept away by the currents and was almost found in the middle of the sea, without anyone being able to approach her.
The frightened parents alerted the authorities and immediately sounded the alarm for all the ships in the area. A ferry boat on the Rio-Antirio route located the little girl and managed to save her.

The incident may have had a happy ending, but this does not always happen.

Important for children when swimming:

• Younger children, even if they know how to swim, should always be under the supervision of adults.
• Everyone but especially children should not swim alone when the sea is turbulent or there are sea currents.
• Children of all ages should not swim in the sea or pool unless they first make sure the water is deep and there are no obstacles.
• If children do water sports they should wear appropriate protective equipment, such as a life jacket.
